Despite Corona, those responsible are satisfied with the start of the training.

District

- At the beginning of autumn, many young people from Freising started as trainees in a company in the region.

Turbulent months are behind them: Due to the corona pandemic, exams had to be postponed, career counselors moved their conversations from school to the Internet, information fairs were canceled, application processes were delayed, and so on.

Willingness to train remains high

"But despite all the uncertainties and changes, some things stayed the same," reports Nikolaus Windisch, head of the Freising Employment Agency.

“The willingness of companies in the district to provide training has remained high overall in recent months.

The number of apprenticeships registered with the employment agency in the 2019/2020 career counseling year was only slightly down on the previous year. ”Also positive: Again, almost all young people were able to start vocational or school training on time.

"Fortunately, we don't see a 'Corona vintage' here."

The Freising companies reported 1121 training positions to be filled, 78 fewer than in the previous year.

At the start of the training, 222 vacancies were vacant, 32 more than a year ago.

At the same time, 907 young women and men registered to seek training, 107 fewer than in the previous year.

At the start of the training, 14 of them were without any professional or school perspective.

“However, young people who have not yet found a suitable training position should not be discouraged.

Many companies continue to employ trainees after their regular training starts, ”explains Harald Brandmaier, head of the Freising career counseling service.

At the beginning of the apprenticeship, there were still vacant apprenticeships registered in various areas.

We were looking for prospective retailers, warehouse logistics specialists, merchants for forwarding and logistics services, butcher shop salespeople and dental assistants.

The craft

Freising's master craftsman Martin Reiter would be delighted to have additional trainees.

A total of 277 apprenticeship contracts have been concluded in the craft in the district since the beginning of the year, 31 contracts or around ten percent less than in the same period a year ago.

"In the professions that are organized in the Freising District Craftsmen Association, we are seeing an increase in almost every division: in construction, with vehicle painters, bakery salesmen, painters, joiners, carpenters and plant mechanics for sanitary, heating and air conditioning technology, “Reports Reiter.

The senior masters have been very committed to presenting apprenticeships for years.

The IHK

The number of newly concluded apprenticeship contracts in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry has fallen somewhat more sharply: 512 new apprentices started in the companies in the Freising district, 21.5 percent fewer than in the previous year.

Education policy spokesman Hubert Schöffmann says: "Corona has not spared the Bavarian training market and as a result, among other factors, leads to falling numbers of new entries in the IHK area."

The training market nevertheless proved to be robust and receptive.

The companies continue to rely on in-company training to secure skilled workers.

The challenges are stabilization and expansion on the demand side.

BSZ Freising

At the state vocational school center with the vocational school for child care, the specialist academy for social pedagogy and the vocational school, 2388 young women and men will be taught this school year.

The numbers are therefore slightly down overall.

Lessons in specialist classes for business and administration, electrical engineering and information technology, metal technology and food professions.

Of the newly admitted 864 students, 205 young people have no training occupation.

They are taught full-time at school.

Pupils with a refugee background who do not have an apprenticeship attend vocational integration classes.

In addition, a new “restart class” has been set up for young people with special personal problems.

"Our goal is to bring these young people back to society and the training and labor market through a full-time school education program," explains school director Daniel Spreng.

Stable figures in the butchery and bakery sectors

In the first year of training at the BSZ, 134 fewer trainees were accepted than in the previous school year.

The decline is particularly noticeable among industrial and precision mechanics, businesspeople for forwarding and logistics services and businesspeople for office management.

There was a slight decline in industrial clerks.

There are stable figures in the butchery and bakery sectors, as well as in retail, plant mechanics, automotive mechatronics and IT specialists.

There is a slight increase in electronics.

The figures for service clerks in air traffic are currently still stable, as the training contracts were already concluded at the lockdown in spring.

The number of pupils at the state vocational school for child care has fallen slightly: 107 pupils are being trained here in four classes - nine fewer than in the previous year.

At the specialist academy for social pedagogy, however, there is an increase of 18 people with 130 students.

The “OptiPrax” training course introduced in 2019 for technical high school graduates was also well received this time.

A total of 36 students are currently completing this three-year teacher training course full-time with theoretical and supervised practical phases.

Uncertain future due to the pandemic

“For young people, a completed apprenticeship is the cornerstone of a successful professional life.

For companies, their own qualified offspring is an important prerequisite for the continued existence of the company.

Even in difficult times like these it is therefore essential to invest in the training of young people, ”summarizes the head of the employment agency, Windisch.

In view of the difficult framework conditions, the balance sheet for the career counseling year is positive overall.

Against the background of the increasing number of infections, a prognosis for further developments on the training market is difficult.
