The 15 clubs in the Bavarian Ice Hockey League are facing an uncertain future: the association has decided to end the season.

If you can play again after the turn of the year, you have to look for a new mode.

  • The BEV has declared the 2020/21 Bayern League season over.

  • There are no promoters or relegators.

  • The ESC Geretsried is hoping that the game will resume at the beginning of the new year.

Geretsried

- The Geretsried River Rats had eight game days in the ice hockey Bayernliga before the lockdown on November 2nd.

And that's it again with the 2020/21 season - at least as far as the point games of the main round until mid-January 2021 and the subsequent interlinking rounds towards the Oberliga and Landesliga.

After games had to be canceled again and again in the first four weeks due to positive corona findings, the table hangs crooked anyway: front runner TEV Miesbach has played nine games, bottom Peißenberg five.

Now the Bavarian Ice Sports Association put an emergency on the brakes late on Tuesday evening, at least for its top division and breaks the season - there will be no promotion and relegation.

Ice hockey chairman Frank Butz specified in an email to the 15 Bayern league clubs: “In cooperation with the clubs, the BEV has analyzed and discussed in detail the season of the Bayern league so far.

The selected game mode is due to the interruption of the season and the framework conditions permitted up to this point in time as well as the non-calculable influences from the pandemic and without further distortion of the competition. "

The River Rats Geretsried are anything but impressed by these developments.

And not just because of the fair season so far: The Geretsried cracks are fifth after eight match days.

“It's just a difficult season,” muses Markus Janka, chairman of the ESC general association.

“But if it goes on again, in whatever form, we will definitely be there.

Coach Rudi Sternkopf and the team want to practice their sport and deliver decent games with the best possible team. "

The Bavarian Ice Sports Association is currently in talks with its clubs on how a game can be represented in a different form.

“That also depends on when it is possible to return to training and competition operations,” clarifies Butz.

A kind of Bayernliga Cup on a voluntary basis is planned.

In order to be able to decide further, the meeting of the Prime Ministers and Chancellor Angela Merkel, which is scheduled for the beginning of next week, will first be awaited.

“It would be important to have a sign in the direction of opening,” says Janka.

However, the opposite is currently indicated.
