The suspect, a 42-year-old Franco-Israeli citizen, pretended to be "
a representative of French law
" and offered to help his victims, who had already been defrauded, for money.
In fact, it was he who had defrauded these people the first time, according to the police, who added that the French authorities turned to their Israeli counterparts several months ago in connection with the case.
During a search of the suspect's home, the Israeli police confiscated technological equipment used in the scam and recovered more than three million shekels in cash (approximately 750,000 euros).
The Tel Aviv court on Friday extended the suspect's custody by seven days.
