The majority union of municipal police officers of Clermont-Ferrand estimated to have obtained a "
small step forward
" from the town hall on the sensitive issue of the arming of agents during a meeting Friday, November 13.

The town hall promised us a decision before the month of June and raised the possibility of an intermediate armament - type bullet launcher or electric pulse pistol - for the night brigades
", indicated Nicolas Chassagne, representative of the CFDT , at the end of the meeting.
“
This is a small step forward which shows that the town hall is asking questions about our increasingly exposed profession.
It is a satisfactory start, we hope for further progress thereafter
”, he added.
Clermont-Ferrand town hall plans to create night brigades but has so far refused to arm its 45 municipal police officers.
“
The meeting helped calm things down and I made a commitment to meet the police every month,
” explained Jérôme Godard, deputy mayor of Clermont in charge of public security.
“
That doesn't mean we're going to arm the municipal police.
We will adjust the level of armament to the missions that we will entrust to our police,
”he added.
The deputy mayor has also ruled out any idea of a referendum on this subject as claimed by the opposition.
The town hall has also pledged "
not to take sanctions
" against the police officers who refused to go out on the ground, asking them to resume work "
normally on Monday
".
Since the end of October, the municipal police officers of Clermont-Ferrand refuse to go on the ground, except in emergency, to claim more means and the possibility of being armed, explained for his part Nicolas Chassagne.

The question of armament has grown in importance since the attacks in Nice and Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, where the municipal police were the first to intervene,
