INTERVIEW - For the president of BusinessEurope it is essential to have a Brexit with a trade agreement, in order to have visibility after January 1, 2021.


Pierre Gattaz is the president of BusinessEurope, the largest employers' association in the EU.

LE FIGARO.- Trade negotiations between the EU and the UK are still sluggish.

How is it that we do not hear from European companies?

Pierre GATTAZ.-

We have followed closely the negotiations between the EU and the United Kingdom from the start.

BusinessEurope has spoken continuously and aloud about the deleterious consequences of no agreement.

But Brexit has unfortunately taken a back seat in recent months.

All of our conversations, including those we have with the Commission, are linked to Covid-19, to the survival of businesses and to restarting our economies once the crisis has passed.

There is great concern among all European employers and economic sectors.
