The Goncourt Prize will be announced on Monday, November 30

2020-11-13T13:41:45.275Z

The Academy which awards the most prestigious literary awards has set this date so that the French "can buy books for Christmas". This announcement should de facto lead to the awarding of the Renaudot prize, which is systematically awarded on the same day as the Goncourt.

The Académie Goncourt announces in a press release dated Friday, November 13, that it will proclaim the Prix Goncourt 2020 on Monday, November 30.

The Academicians who met this November 13 by videoconference took this decision "following the words of the Prime Minister of the day before".

They add that they want

"that everyone can buy books for the holiday season.

This date of November 30, which should precede - finally - the

essential reopening of bookstores

, will allow booksellers to be supplied on time. ”

And the Academicians concluded their press release:

"In the meantime, thank you to readers for giving priority to bookstores click and collect for their purchases of books."

Fifteen days after having decided to postpone the proclamation of its price until the bookstores are open, the Goncourt Academy is putting strong pressure on the Government while taking note of the fact that some of the ministers - including Bruno Le Maire -is in favor of a reopening allowing traders heavily penalized by the confinement to make sales just before the holiday period.

This announcement should de facto lead to the awarding of the Renaudot prize, which is systematically awarded the same day as the Goncourt.

Awarded each year before the other major awards, the Grand Prix du Roman de l'Académie française should also be positioned very quickly.

The Academicians have already met and have already voted on October 29, without revealing their winner.

Finally, the Interallié prize, which closes the grand prix season and has just announced its last selection, should also announce a date.

Remember that the Femina and Medici prizes did not wish to follow the other grand prizes and revealed their winners last week.

For the record, the four finalists for the Goncourt Prize are:
