When the Olching fire brigade was founded 125 years ago, the place still consisted of 50 farms.

A lot has happened since then.

The vehicle fleet is emblematic of the development of the weir.

And one problem is almost historical.

Olching

- around 300 residents had to be protected when the fire brigade was launched on October 13, 1895.

One of the first vehicles was a carriage on which the suction and pressure sprayer that the fire department had bought in 1905 was transported.

This was extremely progressive for the time.

After all, it could spray 350 liters of water per minute and had a range of 36 meters.

It represented a quantum leap for the defense.

All devices were stored in the syringe house on the main street next to the former Endres baker.

Today the rose pharmacy is located there.

In 1910 the comrades moved into a newly built tool shed on Nöscherstrasse.

Always at the forefront of equipment

When it comes to equipment, the Olching fire brigade was always at the forefront.

In 1927 she received the first motorized fire extinguisher in the district.

After the Second World War, however, the comrades had to make do with a second-hand fire fighting vehicle.

The Olching group received the LF 15 fire fighting vehicle from the inventory of the fire police at the Bruck air base.

This earned him the nickname "Mooskuah".

In 1961, the Olching-based company increased its vehicle fleet with the most modern fire engine of its time - the TFL 16 tank tender.

It is still owned by the fire brigade association today and is currently being made roadworthy again by a member.

In the following years the vehicle fleet continued to grow.

It currently includes seven vehicles with multiple trailers, a lifeboat and a forklift.

The latest acquisition is a rescue vehicle with a crane, which went into operation in autumn 2019 and should actually be inaugurated at the 125th anniversary celebration.

Here the visitors would also have had the opportunity to view the old vehicles.

However, the celebrations fell victim to the corona pandemic.

If the situation permits, the Olchinger Wehr wants to do everything in the coming year.

Back to the past: in 1977, the Wehr was one of the first fire departments to receive a rescue spreader that was used in traffic accidents.

Since 1973, Olching has been an important location for training on breathing apparatus across the district due to its breathing protection filling station.

The eternal problem with the lack of space

However, the increasing number of vehicles and the growing equipment repeatedly led to space problems.

As early as 1968, the Olching comrades moved into their third tool shed at the current location on Ordenslandstrasse.

Used 200 times a year

In 1993 the existing building was expanded to include a vehicle hall and several rooms.

"Always new requirements, expansion of tasks, equipment and vehicles required more space in order to keep the level of safety unchanged," said fire department spokesman Hans Beyer.

The same problems are now - 30 years later - again.

“In the past few years, the fire brigade has built two garages, some of them self-employed.

Nevertheless, we hope that the building will be rebuilt at a suitable location soon. "

Today the Olching troop consists of around 70 active members - as it did when it was founded 125 years ago.

These are used around 200 times a year.
