Covid-19: explosion of positive cases among Yvelines police officers!

2020-11-14T16:08:02.756Z

31 positive cases were recorded in two days for the only police station of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Unions call for closure

The Covid-19 puts the Yvelines police force to the test.

The Saint-Germain-en-Laye police station became, this Saturday morning, the largest police cluster in the department with 31 positive cases in two days and a host of contact cases.

A situation which led to the closure of the judicial office of the police station - which in total has 146 active officials - for the entire weekend.

But the police officers in uniform continue to carry out their missions and those arrested are directed to the Sartrouville police station.

The cause ?

Maybe the arrest of drug dealers

The cause of this sudden rise in contamination could be attributed to a police operation carried out last week.

Saint-Germanois investigators had arrested drug traffickers and the detainees were transported in several vehicles and were detained in the premises of Marly-le-Roi and Vésinet.

So many transports and contacts that would have spread the disease.

"It is a hard blow," said a police officer, "because the officials of the royal city are known to put on their masks and respect the barrier measures.

"

Faced with this situation, François Bersani, of the SGP Unit union, deplores that his colleagues are asked to "remain in service in non-decontaminated premises".

He calls for the total closure of the Saint-Germain-en-Laye police station and its two divisions as long as a complete decontamination by a specialized company has not been carried out, the massive screening of all personnel and requires the isolation of all contact cases.

25 positive cases also in Mantes-la-Jolie

Last week, it was the urban security of Mantes-la-Jolie which had been affected with twenty-five positive cases.

The night service was also severely impacted by the disease such as the Elancourt police station.

In the police, as in the medical professions, contact cases are required to be present at their place of work.

Steve Pozar of the UNSA Police union is sounding the alarm.

“We call for immediate action to be taken to protect colleagues.

But also that the heads of service organize, in consultation with the staff, vacations limiting the number of police officers in vehicles or offices.

"

For its part, the Alliance union, through the voice of Julien Le Cam, insists on “the strict application of circulars which includes the immediate disinfection of the premises.

And the isolation of contact cases otherwise it is all the police officers who will fall ill.

"

Workforce compensation to maintain security

In Saint-Germain-en-Laye, emergency measures were taken on Friday.

"As antigenic tests can be carried out at the town hall, we tested all the staff of the police station to prevent them from going to laboratories and waiting for the result", explains Arnaud Péricard (DVD), the mayor of the town.

The elected official immediately contacted the prefecture in order to maintain security.

"We are going to benefit from staff compensation with among others mobile gendarmes and I mobilized the municipal police officers to face it", he warns.

Unlike the first confinement, no plan is planned to limit the contamination and the police are working with instructions to respect the barrier measures.

They have also a lot to do in recent days with the terrorist threat, the fight against drug trafficking and high school revolts.

To support local staff, the departmental management benefits from the support of republican security companies (CRS).

A source adds that "everything is being done to manage this health crisis in accordance with government instructions in relation to the prefecture and the regional health agency".
