Actually, the preparations for the Lenggries carnival procession are already in full swing.

But the train will be moved to 2022.

Lenggries

- Every five years there is a carnival procession in Lenggries, and 2021 would be another year.

But due to the corona pandemic, the "Mia sans" association has put all preparations on hold, reports board member Michael Gascha when asked by Tölzer Kurier.

“Actually we would have sat down in the summer and talked about the procedure.

But even then we were careful, ”says Gascha.

Now the fears have come true.

“It's a shame, but complaining doesn't help either.

Let's look ahead, ”says Gascha.

The carnival period 2021 is already quite short.

"It makes no sense to wait for the whole corona development to then perhaps have to cancel everything at the last minute." Of course, the adult and children's balls will not take place either.

The board team, elected in November 2019 for a two-year term, has agreed to stay in office for another year and to move the carnival procession to 2022, said Gascha.

Only then will it be discussed whether you will make the next move after four years or start a new five-year cycle.

"We just see what makes sense."

The last carnival procession took place in February 2016.

In beautiful winter weather around 8,000 spectators watched the spectacle at the roadside.

More than 50 wagons and groups of feet pulled local and national topics through the cocoa.

In addition to a good mood, there was plenty of confetti.

The scraps of paper not only ensured white streets and sidewalks on the snow-poor Sunday in early February.

Many homeowners spent days with vacuum cleaners and brooms to get the last traces of the foolish goings under.

The former mayor of Lenggries, Werner Weindl, has fond memories of the 2016 carnival procession.

“The whole Isarwinkel was on the move,” he enthuses today.

He and his wife Regina had dressed up so well as a harem lady and sheikh that the two - largely - could watch the goings-on at the roadside without being recognized.

“They were all good and funny ideas that were staged for carnival,” he says.

The Leonhardi outgrowths and Sepp Haslingers Wetterkerze as well as the mountain bike trail come to mind.

There was no way around the cancellation of the carnival procession next year.

This inevitably leads to a new rhythm of events.

The carnival procession used to take place every six years - always before the local elections.

That always made for exciting topics, says Weindl.

Some time ago, they switched to the five-year interval.

“The Lenggries carnival procession is special because it doesn't take place every year, as is the case elsewhere,” says Weindl.

The Lenggries tourism director also finds it a shame that the carnival procession has to be postponed.

"We regret that so many events that mean a lot to the people - the population and our guests - have to be canceled", said Ursula Dinter-Adolf when asked.

"At the same time, we hope that the measures and restrictions will work and that more will then be possible again."
