Officers from the Traffic Enforcement and Control Section of the New Territories South Region set up roadblocks on Tsing Kwai Highway near Cheung Tsing Tunnel at about 4:45 am yesterday (14) to combat traffic violations.
In the meantime, a private car failed to stop as directed and drove away at high speed.
Police officers chased down Yan Po Road, Tuen Mun. The private car stopped for a while. A male police officer got out of the car and broke the window with a telescopic baton. The private car suddenly fell over and injured the male police officer's hand.
Later, the private car drove to Tsz Tin Estate, Tuen Mun, and hit a private car parked at the site. A male driver and three male passengers alighted and fled. The police were chased by one of the males. The passenger attacked the passenger with a handbag, and the police officer drew his guns on guard and then subdued the man.
The 22-year-old man surnamed Liang was arrested on suspicion of driving madly and assaulting the police; another 18-year-old female passenger in the car surnamed Liang refused to cooperate with the officers and was arrested on suspicion of resisting police officers.
Police officers subsequently arrested 4 men aged between 18 and 31 in Tuen Mun District for driving madly.
All arrested men and women are now being detained for investigation.
The injured male police officer was soberly sent to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.
The private car rushed to Tsz Tin Village, Tuen Mun and hit a private car parked at the site.
