N., a well-known rabbi from a city in the South, was arrested yesterday (Friday) after the police received complaints about indecent acts he allegedly committed on two of his students.
The Magistrate's Court in Rishon Lezion this evening extended his detention by three days.
Two complaints have so far been filed against the rabbi, who denies what is attributed to him, one from a boy and the other from a young man, claiming that he took advantage of his position and committed sexual offenses with them.
Now, police are checking their versions and whether there are any more victims.
Following the interrogation of the rabbi, who teaches and runs a community in his hometown, the name of another boy who may have fallen victim to the offense came up.
Police arrested the rabbi after she received information about the acts he allegedly committed, which led her to open an investigation into the case.
After two possible victims were located, they were summoned for questioning and filed complaints against the rabbi - which led to his arrest.
The rabbi, as well as his followers, claim that this is a plot that has been circulated by followers who oppose him.
In the physical clashes that took place between the opponents and the rabbi's supporters, several people from both sides were detained for questioning.
At its conclusion, some were released on restrictive conditions, including a ban on approaching the rabbi and each other.
