The National Hurricane Center (NHC, in English) reported this Friday the formation in the Caribbean Sea of
the new tropical storm, Iota
.
It is forecast that it could become a hurricane and seriously affect Central America during this Sunday or Monday.
The storm is about 350 miles (560 km) southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, with maximum sustained winds of 40 miles (65 km) per hour.
Forecasters warn that Iota could bring up to 20 inches (50 centimeters) of rain to northern Nicaragua and Honduras, and cause more damage in areas where people are still suffering the ravages of Eta.
Hundreds of thousands of families were affected by this phenomenon in Central America last week.
Iota is the 30th named storm to form
this Atlantic hurricane season, which this year has been very intense.
These phenomena have focused attention on
climate change
, which scientists say is causing wetter, stronger and more destructive storms.
