The Centre for Health Protection announced tonight (16th) that it is investigating 7 outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infections, involving 1 child care centre and 6 primary schools, and a total of 179 school children have contracted the disease.

The center will conduct a new coronavirus test for the teachers and students of the affected classes, and recommend that the classes be suspended for no less than 3 days before the test results are obtained, as a preventive measure.

The affected schools include Wan Chai Hennessy Road Government Primary School, Po Leung Kuk Chen Shou Yan Primary School in Yau Ma Tei, and two international schools.

The Centre for Health Protection said that as of 5 noon, a total of 306 cases of upper respiratory disease outbreaks in schools or institutions have been received this month, involving 2,910 people.

The center is investigating new cases in 7 schools, involving 1 child care center and 6 elementary schools. A total of 179 children were infected.

The child care center where the epidemic broke out was Tong Le Ju, the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children in Mong Kok. A total of 31 children were infected, including 16 boys and 15 girls.

They started to have fever, cough and runny nose on November 10, all in stable condition and no need to be hospitalized.

The Hennessy Road Government Primary School in Wan Chai had the largest number of infected children, involving 35 people, including 16 boys and 19 girls.

The school children had fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat starting from November 6. All of them are in stable condition and do not need to be hospitalized.

Twenty-three children at the Po Leung Kuk Chan Shou Yan Primary School in Yau Ma Tei were also infected, including 12 boys and 11 girls.

They have had a cough, runny nose and sore throat since November 6. They are all in stable condition and do not need to be hospitalized.

Other affected primary schools include BEACON HILL SCHOOL (Beacon Hill Primary School) in Kowloon Tong, Pak Tin Catholic Primary School in Sham Shui Po, SHATIN JUNIOR SCHOOL (Sha Tin Primary School) and Tung Chung Salvation Army Lam Ba Chung Memorial School.

The Centre for Health Protection stated that its staff have inspected the above-mentioned schools or have contacted the schools to arrange inspections.

For the sake of caution, schools with outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infections will be arranged to distribute deep throat saliva sample bottles, and the teachers and students of the affected classes will be tested for the new crown virus, and the relevant classes will be advised to suspend classes before the test results are obtained Not less than 3 days.

The center reminds the public to pay attention to good personal and environmental hygiene to prevent influenza and other respiratory diseases.
