Italy recorded 27,354 new cases of coronavirus during the past 24 hours, which brings the total to one million 205,881 cases.
Reuters quoted the Italian Ministry of Health as saying today that 504 new deaths were also recorded, down from 546 the previous day, bringing the total to 45,733 cases.
The ministry added that the northern Lombardy region is still the most affected in terms of the number of injuries, with 4,128 new infections recorded today, down from 8,060 yesterday.
For weeks, Italy has been witnessing unprecedented increases in daily infections with the virus, and yesterday it recorded more than 33,000 new infections, although the death index did not reach its peak levels.
