A fire in a tenement building on Canton Road in Yau Ma Tei caused 7 deaths and 11 injuries.

Judy said that when she was an assistant to the Legislative Council, she had visited the tenement house where the accident occurred many times and had dinner at the restaurant involved. She described the restaurant as a narrow environment.
She said that Nepalese would celebrate Diwali, but there is a lot of space in their hometown to light candles, while Hong Kong has a relatively small space. She believes that candles should be replaced by other substitutes to avoid danger.
