In winter, the memory of one of us is hardly devoid of pictures of grandmothers weaving these beautiful woolen clothes and the eyes of the family look to them eagerly and eagerly watch that elaborate work and the arts of creativity used to accomplish it and with the passage of time this craft did not remain restricted to grandmothers only, but many young women inherited it and perfected it and some of them took it A profession and a source of livelihood, and some of them used it as a leisure time hobby.

Jumana Mohsen Suleiman says I inherited this craft from my mother and grandmother, as I watched the movement of the hook in their hands flowing precisely and tried to imitate them every time. It was a simple matter that requires attention and focus at the beginning. Simple movements can add a lot of creativity and distinction to the occupied pieces.

Sulaiman continues. I made my first piece of wool when I was fourteen years old. At first it was just a hobby and when I got married, I learned to sew jackets for my children and my husband. I made coats, dresses, socks, shawls and pieces to decorate home furniture. In fulfillment of the desire of relatives and neighbors, I started making and selling them until it became a profession and a source of income for me that helped me overcome the difficulties of living.

As for Yomna Jawdat Mahmoud, she points out that she has been working in this craft for 30 years and that at the age of fifteen she became a master of knitting wool. She watched her mother carefully and learned from her the secret of the profession.

Mahmoud recalls that she kept up with fashion in her designs, and with the passage of time she created and opened a shop selling handmade woolen clothes.

It is noteworthy that wool is knitted manually using one or two hooks, and the woolen yarns used vary between natural or synthetic, such as DMC, silk, crystal, etc. The drawings differ according to the pole, stitches and threads used, and weaving wool remains a handicraft inherited in the past and is a source of livelihood for many women.
