Defense Ministry Director General Maj. Eshel also referred to the IDF's multi-year plan, as well as to delays in approving and realizing the purchase of weapons from the United States with aid funds.

The director general of the Ministry of Defense referred to the purchase of refueling, combat aircraft, heavy transport helicopters and advanced armaments, with some of the IDF aircraft and helicopters already 60-50 years old.

"Our young fighter jets are 44 years old, there is no such force (veteran AB) in the world," Eshel clarified.

He warned that "Israel is in the 94th minute to realize the deal that is critical from a security and safety point of view for Israel."

Therefore, Eshel offered two alternatives for financing the deal after a severe crisis with the Ministry of Finance: eight billion shekels financed by the government, or taking a loan, the interest on which ($ 200 million) will now be paid, and the fund will be paid by the Ministry of Defense in a decade.

The Ministry of Finance has agreed to a sum of eight billion shekels from the government, subject to horizontal cuts in all government ministries in the coming years.

Eshel's remarks constitute progress and a kind of breakthrough in negotiations with the Treasury.

Beyond that, Eshel suggested that defense exports that had hitherto not been for sale be re-examined in order to increase the volume of revenue to the country during the corona period.

"There is not a single sacred cow here," Eshel said, and did not rule out selling weapons systems like the Iron Dome and other classified weapon systems.

"The State of Israel knows how to protect its secrets," he explained.

Eshel explained that "since there is no state budget, there are more funds in 2020 that have not been used up and the Israeli government is looking to inject them back into the economy."

According to him, "this is several billion shekels."

According to him, any expenditure requires the approval of the Ministry of Finance, and accordingly the Ministry of Defense presented an idea to establish jobs, one of them at Elbit, and in exchange to make security purchases from them, in order to create thousands of jobs.

The Ministry of Finance rejected the idea because it is too expensive, and there are already better alternatives on how to use the same money to create jobs in 2021, not necessarily in the defense industries.
