Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit clarified this evening (Monday) that the government must discuss the issue of appointing a director general to the Ministry of Justice, as part of the petition to the High Court on the matter.

According to him, a conditional order should be issued as requested in the petition, because "no concrete reason was presented for not setting a date for raising the proposed resolution for appointment to a discussion in the government."



"The Attorney General believes that there is no escape from issuing a conditional order as requested in the petition," Mandelblit clarified.

In so doing, the ombudsman reiterated his principled position in another proceeding that "coalition agreements - as well as coalition disputes - cannot override the duty of the government and those authorized to act to fill senior positions with permanent appointments."

In a hearing last week in the High Court regarding Netanyahu's conflict of interest settlement, the issue of delaying appointments was also discussed - and the spokesman's representative said he believes a conditional order should be issued, which will require the government to act to promote permanent appointments to senior positions.

The attorney general's position, which was published this evening, was submitted as part of another petition filed by the Movement for Purity, and specifically requests that the government discuss the appointment of Adv.
