Travel to the future, the cocoon in the middle of nature of Sybille de Margerie

2020-11-16T02:20:31.450Z

During the first confinement, in his spare time, the interior designer sketched out a protective refuge. This motionless UFO thrills hoteliers and individuals alike.

At the end of March, under house arrest (like all of France), Sybille de Margerie is working on what could be

“the ideal hotel room for confinement

”.

What can we add to what already exists?

Not easy!

She goes around in circles.

Proust reads again.

A phrase resonates particularly in his head:

"The most remarkable journeys are interior, freed from time and space."

These words unconsciously guide the hand of this great traveler - always between two planes to follow her hotel projects to the four corners of the world (she designed the decor of the Old Cataract in Aswan, the Barthélemy in Saint-Barth, the Mandarin Oriental in Paris and Geneva, from Grand to Amsterdam, from Norman to Tel Aviv, from Cheval Blanc Courchevel…).

She designs a luxury cocoon placed in a green landscape.

"Inspired by the moment, by the need for nature, to recharge your batteries, to flee the city and a world that has become disturbing, this luxury cocoon is a reassuring lodge where you can isolate yourself, as a couple or as a family."

Its ovoid shape symbolizes

“a rebirth from the situation”

.

As in the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang, it plays on the clear / dark oppositions, femininity / masculinity, day / night, interior / exterior, withdrawal into oneself / openness to others ...

A creation free from all constraints

The luxury cocoons are decorated with noble materials, vintage furniture and have the technology of a 5-star suite.

The architect creates fluid, curved, enveloping lines.

A reflection on well-being and

“better living”

is at the heart of the study.

An exercise in style free from any constraint since it is not an order from a customer but a personal approach giving free rein to his imagination.

Under the dome: a single space, with a living room (day) and a bedroom (night).

There are of course the noble materials dear to the designer: parquet and stone, leather and linen, metal and glass…, nomadic and vintage furniture, as well as all the comfort and technology of a 5-star suite.

The exquisite sketch posted on social networks is a great success.

The Sybille de Margerie agency then developed this conceptual project in two directions.

For individuals, in the form of an extension of a house, a guest room to put in a garden.

And for hotels: either an atypical suite in addition to the main establishment, or several luxury cocoons forming a complete set.

Dialogue with the landscape (countryside, beach, desert…) participates in the sensory journey to which the interior designer invites us.

The structure, being studied by a manufacturer of boat hulls, would be very easy to build but not removable (like nomadic accommodation).

It would not be autonomous either, but connected to a running water point, energy sources… Why not also imagine it being eco-responsible?

For the moment, this file is still at the R & D stage. Work in progress.
