Dieter Nuhr likes to polarize with robust statements.
But some of his words have now caused a tangible racism scandal.
The comedian justifies himself.
Comedian
Dieter Nuhr
defends himself against accusations of racism.
After testifying about a book by a black author, Nuhr is confronted with allegations.
Dunja Hayali had jumped to the side of the author Alice Hasters.
Munich -
Dieter Nuhr is
currently
talking
about his own words.
The comedian had made a false claim during a performance and sidelined himself with his explanation.
But one after anonther.
During an appearance on his ARD program “Nur im Erste” on Thursday, the comedian claimed that the book
“What white people don't want to hear about racism, but should know”
by Alice Hasters was “a big hit in the USA”.
Nuhr "noticed it in passing at the airport."
“I might even have been interested, but the title was a bit too
racist for
me
.” Because the woman seriously claims that as a white person you are automatically a racist.
Nuhr: "This form of the pseudo-intellectuality of an arrogant left is largely responsible for the fact that there could be something like
Donald Trump *
."
Dieter Nuhr corrects false statements about the Hasters book
However: It has not even appeared there yet.
Nuhr corrected his false statement in a YouTube video and also posted a text on Facebook.
"I made a mistake when I said 'This book was ...' I wanted to say, 'Such books are ...' I made this mistake - and of course admitted it, no question."
Nuhr went further and resisted being portrayed as racist.
“I'm used to being labeled,
but now I'm also being accused of being a
racist
.
Of course, I cannot leave this reproach as it is. "
According to Nuhr, discrimination works in both directions.
He gave the example that, as
a white man, he could also be discriminated against in Mali
.
However, he himself notes that it is not the same as living in a country where the majority is privileged over the minority.
But still insists that this is also racism.
The comedian called the book title "
sensational
" because he accused "Whites of general unwillingness" to want to perceive certain things.
He called this allegation due to the color of the skin "racist".
Nuhr does not believe “that sensational book headings, the aim of which is to polarize scandalizing for the purpose of sales promotion, as is the case with Alice Hasters' book, help to change the situation.
You specify this, but ultimately lead to a hardening of the fronts. "
Book author comments on Nuhr's theses on Twitter
It bothers him that there is an “ideologized academic process” today.
A common term such as racism is only being redefined (“Whites cannot experience racism because of colonial history”).
Others are then accused of not adhering to the definition.
Nuhr believes that his use of the term is that of "colloquial" -
"and that is the language I speak on stage."
Author
Alice Hasters
took part in the discussion on Twitter: “I have never said that white people are racist because they are white.
All people are racially socialized, white people are privileged by racism.
That is what they often do not want to hear, but should know. "
Like all other racializations, “white” is a social construct and not a biological fact.
Whether one falls into the “white” category can depend on the context.
I too can be white in some contexts.
Dieter Nuhr is white in every context.
