Munich's housing builder GWG has apparently fallen victim to
Internet gangsters
.
IT has been paralyzed
since
Thursday
.
Are
blackmailers
demanding a
ransom
so that the systems can be released again?
All that is known is that IT has been
paralyzed "extensively"
since
Thursday
, as it was said in a
press
release.
The
analysis is
running, not only the in-house IT is switched on, but also an external specialist
service provider
.
The
police
are informed.
The
State Criminal Police Office
determined.
The GWG
employees
can be reached by phone, the
caretakers
on site.
In the
attack
on the IT of
GWG
which could
reportedly
by so-called
ransomware
have been used.
Hackers use
this to hijack
companies'
systems
, encrypt the data and only release it again when the
company pays a ransom
.
Another
potential threat
is to publish the data tapped from the servers.
In 2018,
Krauss Maffei
fell victim to such a
ransomware attack
in
Munich
.
After that, the
company was
only able to work with reduced performance for months.
The
ARD magazine “Plusminus”
recently reported
on the attack on the
copper manufacturer
KME from Osnabrück.
There, too,
production
was limited.
The hackers
left
messages asking
for payment
on the computers
.
How high these should be at the GWG could not be officially found out.
According to
information from
our
newspaper, it should
be a large amount.
In the case of KME, the blackmailer and negotiator agreed according to “Plusminus” to 1.27 million US dollars.
With
30,000 apartments
and around
700 commercial units
, GWG München is one of the largest housing companies in the Munich area.
It looks after around 70,000 tenants.
