RSM Classic: to a Masters tune ...

2020-11-17T21:35:21.760Z

PRESENTATION - Many players present at Augusta last week are at the start of the RSM Classic, on the paradise island of Sea Island. Among them, South Korean Sungjae Im and South African Dylan Frittelli, second and fifth in the last Major of the season.

The PGA Tour remains in the State of Georgia this week.

After the Masters, place in effect for the RSM Classic, played three hours south of Augusta, on Sea Island more precisely.

One of the islands of the Sea Islands archipelago on the Atlantic coast, very close to Florida, where the G8 summit took place in 2004.

A little paradise on earth, the Sea Island Resort, which hosts the 2020 edition of the RSM Classic between Thursday and Sunday, is a landmark for pro golfers.

Several residents of the PGA Tour reside there year round, the best known of all being Davis Love III, twice US Ryder Cup captain, and above all host of the tournament for several years.

The tournament is played on two courses, the Seaside Course, a par 70 of 6,405 meters redesigned by Tom Fazio in 1999, and the Plantation Course, a par 72 of 6,455 meters redesigned in 2019. For the first two laps, we will alternate on both routes before returning to the Seaside during the weekend.

The very relative proximity of Augusta allows the presence of many golfers engaged last week in this 84th Masters in history which saw the record victory of Dustin Johnson (-20)!

Thus, among those who finished in the top 30 of the last Major of the season, we find the South Korean Sungjae Im, tied for second, but also the South African Dylan Frittelli, fifth or the Taiwanese CT (7th). and the Canadian Corey Conners (10th).

Several members of the world top 30, also in contention for Augusta, are in the game such as Webb Simpson (world n ° 6), Louis Oosthuizen (n ° 20) and the English Tyrrell Hatton (n ° 10), Tommy Fleetwood (n ° 16) and Justin Rose (n ° 28) or the Irishman Shane Lowry (n ° 30).

A nice line-up to which are added recent winners on the PGA Tour such as Stewart Cink (Safeway Open), Hudson Swafford (Corales Punta Cana Championship), Martin Laird (Shriners Hospitals for Children Open), Jason Kokrak (CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek) and Brian Gay, victorious on November 1 of the Bermuda Championship.

Tyler Duncan, surprise winner in 2019

A nice skewer to which is added the defending champion, Tyler Duncan.

Last year, the American, who was still competing on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017, managed to beat the big favorite, Webb Simpson, on the second playoff hole, and took the opportunity to open his counter on the PGA Tour.

An unexpected success which also allowed him to be at the start of the Masters last Thursday (cut missed with two cards of 77 and 71).
