The Centre for Health Protection announced tonight (16th) that it is investigating 9 outbreaks of upper respiratory tract infection, involving 7 primary schools and 2 special schools, and a total of 202 school children have contracted the disease.

The center will conduct a new coronavirus test for the teachers and students of the affected classes, and recommend that the classes be suspended for no less than 3 days before the test results are obtained, as a preventive measure.

Schools affected by the outbreak include Wan Chai Sheng Kung Hui St. James Primary School, Ma Tau Chung Hong Kong Pui Dao Primary School, Tseung Kwan O Preaching College and Sha Tin Methodist Primary School.

There have been 82 outbreaks in elementary schools this week

The Centre for Health Protection said that as of 5pm today, a total of 358 cases of upper respiratory disease outbreaks in schools or institutions have been received this month, involving 3,365 people.

Among them, as of 5 pm today, a total of 82 primary school outbreaks have been received this week, which is 1.34 times more than the total of 35 in the same period yesterday.

Today, 9 schools are in a more serious situation, involving 7 primary schools and 2 special schools. A total of 202 children have been infected.

The Li Jin Primary School of the Shun Tak Association of Tuen Mun has the largest number of infected children, involving 19 boys and 10 girls, aged between 6 and 8.

They developed fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat on November 9, and 18 of them have sought medical treatment; all are in stable condition and do not need to be hospitalized.

In Ma Tau Chung Hong Kong Pui Dao Primary School, 28 children were infected, including 10 boys and 18 girls, aged between 6 and 8.

The school children have had fever, cough, runny nose and sore throat since November 10. Among them, 21 have sought medical treatment; all are in stable condition and do not need to be hospitalized.

23 students from Tong Mi Road Government Primary School and Tung Chung Catholic School in Tai Kok Tsui were also infected.

Other affected primary schools include Wan Chai Sheng Kung Hui St. James Primary School, Tseung Kwan O Preaching College, Sha Tin Methodist Primary School; and special schools include Tseung Kwan O Hong Chi Tsui Lam Morning School and Hong Chi Yuen Long Morning School.

The Department of Health recommends that the relevant class be suspended for no less than 3 days
