The State Attorney's Search Committee convened today (Tuesday) for the first meeting of the Office of the Attorney General in Jerusalem.
The committee members include Speaker Avichai Mandelblit, who chairs the committee, Civil Service Commissioner Professor Daniel Hershkovitz, Acting Director General of the Ministry of Justice Adv. Sigal Yaakovi, Public Representative Adv. Rachel Toren and Academy Representative Prof. Oren Gazal- Eyal.
According to government decisions, the candidate for the position should be eligible to be appointed a judge in the Supreme Court.
Today's discussion was devoted to determining the working procedures of the committee, and to determining the relevant criteria for evaluating the various candidates.
At the end of the first hearing, the committee decided to summon for interview all those who applied and were found to meet the threshold conditions.
Among the candidates for the position: Judge Michal Agmon-Gonen, Adv. Amit Isman, Adv. Eyal Basarglik, Adv. Ofer Bartel, Adv. Tali Gottblib, Judge Yaron Levy of the District Court, Adv. Ronit Liran Shaked, Adv. D. Shlomo Lemberger, Deputy Head of DIP Adv. Moshe Saada, Adv. Eli Foxbromer and Adv. Yael Tuthani.
Whoever is marked as the leading candidate is Deputy Attorney General Shlomo Lemberger.
The State Attorney's Office and its head push a candidate from within the system and not an outside candidate.
Mandelblit himself has been fighting for the appointment of Lemberger as deputy state attorney in the previous round against former Justice Minister Amir Ohana.
Lemberger is considered close to a consultant, they see eye to eye professionally and there is a personal closeness between them.
