has the characteristics to be able to help the country overcome this difficult moment," said

referring to the demonstrations that took place in different parts of the country demanding the resignation of former interim president Manuel Merino.
In addition, he added: "He is a person who could be located in social democracy and I think he achieves the respect of different sectors,

, legislator of the Purple Party, was elected this afternoon by Congress as the new president of Peru, the third to occupy the position in a week due to the crisis that opened after the dismissal in a lightning political trial of Martín Vizcarra, which originated a wave of public protests.
He will preside over the country until the next general elections that are scheduled for April 2021.
