There is something of a secret alchemy in the writing of this sophisticated comedy which takes place in Paris and makes Audrey Hepburn shine with a thousand lights alongside the great Gary Cooper.
She is 28, he is 56. As for Maurice Chevalier, he plays Claude Chavasse, a private detective who specializes in adultery.
This loving father raises his daughter Ariane (Audrey Hepburn, as always dressed by Hubert de Givenchy) on his own.
The young woman is studying the conservatory cello, flanked by her chaperone, Michel (played by actor Van Doude, whose face is strangely reminiscent of Michel Gondry's).
