The Prime Minister and Angela Merkel appealed to the population on Monday.
Further resolutions are to follow next week.
In Merkel's eyes, things could also go faster.
Prime Minister and Chancellor
Angela Merkel
noticed
that
federalism is
not always easy when it comes to joint decisions
*
once more on Monday.
At the
“Corona summit”
, they decided to make urgent appeals, but not to take the far-reaching measures that Merkel would have liked.
Now she wants action to be taken faster before the
intensive care units get
even more problems.
Berlin - One day after the
Corona conference
with the Prime Ministers, the previous evening's dispute is again hinted at.
Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU *) speaks at the “
Economic Summit of
the Süddeutsche Zeitung” and sums up why things have to be done quickly now: “If we waited until the intensive care beds are fully occupied, it would be too late.” Also before this Merkel is a little disillusioned with the
speed of
the decisions.
“I regret that it is sometimes slow because it ultimately costs us more money.
If you act earlier, you can get out of the
restrictions
more quickly
. ”Because every day counts, she would have a few more
decisions
on Monday
able to imagine.
As soon as exponential growth sets in again, action must be taken.
Before the talks
, the
federal government had
issued
a
draft resolution
containing new decisions.
However, some
prime ministers
did not want to support them.
The discussions dragged on, the media repeatedly reported on arguments behind the scenes.
Some state bosses only wanted to make an interim conclusion, but did not want to make further
restrictions
.
The reason: It is not yet clear how the corona numbers will develop.
Merkel, meanwhile, considers the situation to be very serious, as she stressed again Tuesday morning.
Corona summit: Merely an interim conclusion was planned from the start
We need an overall concept and not a salami tactic.
We have therefore not postponed any measures, the #wellenbrecherShutdown is working and we need an overall concept for December & January based on the figures for the next week.

Manuela Schwesig
(SPD), Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is calling for
an overall concept for the next few months
instead of
“salami tactics”
.
"You can't tighten the screws every week," Schwesig justifies Monday's interim results.
Merkel admitted that this was planned from the start.
The fact that not everything was unanimous among those present could already be felt at the press conference afterwards.
At the time, the Chancellor still spoke of "slightly different views".
Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller
(SPD *) noted that the
Chancellery
had
recently always worked out
new
corona measures
“at very short notice”.
According to
Merkel
, she now wants to try a “fair burden-sharing” - the countries mostly followed the decisions “not so euphorically”.
Söder
only
allowed himself
a brief but pointed comment: "I'm very curious
to see
whether this will succeed."
Angela Merkel on the Corona crisis: "Hardest decisions of my term of office"
But Merkel also makes it clear that the decisions relating to the
Corona crisis are
among the "hardest decisions of my term of office".
With regard to the economy, the head of
government
said that
fighting does not apply to “health or
economy
”, but “health and economy” as well as culture and education.
For 2021 she expects a "strong
growth spurt
, provided we get the pandemic under control".
The corona pandemic is a "
challenge
of the
century
for the whole world and for each individual".
It was therefore important for Merkel to emphasize once again that urgent appeals were made to the population on Monday.
The resolutions should follow next Wednesday.
Merkel wanted to “continue to be the impatient part of the debate”.
With the note to her colleagues: “I look forward to every support I get.”
