La Paz-Sana

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales announced that he had regained the leadership of the ruling (Movement for Socialism) party, which he founded, a week after his return to the country.

"After evaluating the election results and other issues, it was unanimously agreed that I would assume the leadership of the Movement for Socialism," AFP quoted Morales as saying at a press conference in Cochabamba, adding that he called a meeting of party officials next week to discuss the upcoming local elections in March.

Bolivia is currently governed by a former economy minister in the government of Morales Luis Arce, who won the run-off election last month.

Former Bolivian President Evo Morales returned to his country a week ago, amid a massive public reception after a year of exile in Argentina, following the coup d'etat by the United States against his legitimacy in the country after winning the general elections whose results were canceled under the pretext of "fraud."
