In order to remain attractive to educators and nannies, the city of Unterschleißheim continues to pay the labor market allowance.

This would have expired at the end of the year.

Unterschleißheim

- Almost nothing works without additional incentives.

Traditionally underpaid professional groups from the social sector are increasingly asking about bonus programs during job interviews.

If you don't go along with this, you quickly end up empty-handed.

The city of Unterschleißheim is therefore extending the limited labor market allowance for nannies and educators until December 31, 2022.

Whether it is a conurbation, large area or labor market allowance, inexpensive living space, travel allowance or extra money for every child - cities, municipalities and districts have been in ruthless competition for five years at the latest.

The prize is firefighters, nurses, and paramedics.

In the district of Munich it is mostly about nannies and educators.

The large-scale allowance is based on this - unlike the agglomeration allowance linked to the place of residence at the workplace.

Anyone who works in the district from the point of view of the district office is sponsored by the district.

The reason for this is the high cost of living around Munich.

"So we have no other choice but to continue like this."

In the main committee of the city of Unterschleißheim, Mayor Christoph Böck (SPD) praised the labor market allowance as an instrument that has long since become indispensable in the struggle for coveted specialists.

In connection with the large-scale allowance, the additional funds granted monthly for educators (200 euros) and child carers (150 euros) have proven to be extremely helpful in acquiring sufficient staff for kindergartens, crèches and after-school care centers.

The problem: "Surrounding municipalities do the same," said Böck: "So we have no choice but to continue like this."

It was only in October that Oberschleißheim raised the labor market allowance for childcare providers by 50 to 200 euros.

The neighboring community said goodbye to the longstanding practice of subsidizing child carers less than educators.

With retroactive effect from September 1st, both professional groups will be paid an extra 200 euros each month.

In addition, Schleissheim attracts with inexpensive living space.

The city's bonus program costs 762,000 euros.

In 2009, the Bavarian Municipal Employers' Association (KAV) gave public sector employers the opportunity to bind certain professional groups through bonuses.

Munich and the district soon fought bitter duels.

Municipalities and cities followed suit.

Nannies and educators are not only disproportionately paid.

The training is considered time-consuming and demanding.

No wonder that more and more daycare providers are faced with the question of allowances in job interviews.

A large number of municipalities from the surrounding area now use the combination of labor market and large-scale allowances;

further extras included.

Garching and Ismaning are there as well as the district of Freising and the communities of Eching and Neufahrn.

The district of Upper Bavaria transfers a travel allowance to employees.

In July, the KAV gave its members the opportunity to also pay community workers a labor market allowance.

The allowance must be limited in time and is intended to cover personnel requirements.

Personnel willing to emigrate may be retained with bonus payments.

Unterschleißheim has no choice but to go along with it.

According to the town hall, the chances of success in recruiting would be rather slim without extras.

One would even have to expect that the specialists of the 21 daycare centers will find their way around elsewhere.

The bonus program costs the city 762,000 euros.
