Contractor apartments are challenging apartments for design because it is necessary to take a generic apartment, adapt it and bring life and uniqueness to it.

On the other hand, they are like a completely smooth canvas that gives freedom to creativity and a fresh start.

In the case of this apartment, it is a contractor apartment in Rehovot which was purchased by a young couple with small children.

The couple wanted to make it a pleasant and enveloping apartment, with natural materials and bright textiles, lots of storage space and mostly wanted to give it character.

In the initial stage of refining needs and style it was decided to give up an island in the kitchen in favor of a sense of simplicity and warmth that a central dining table produces.

In addition, the savings in space made it possible to create a play area in the common space for the small children, which was very important for the couple.

Along with the desire to create a soft family space, it was decided to challenge these initial definitions and also add "tough" and rough elements in the choice of materials and items, without losing balance.

Therefore, in front of the light wood and airy items a black kitchen with copper handles and a light Caesar stone surface with tendons was chosen, with the addition of an iron beverage cabinet and industrial-looking lamps.

The dining area features a light wood table in clean lines surrounded by 6 vintage chairs, renovated and reupholstered and two of them also painted in light green, which gives a refreshing and unexpected color point.

The use of lighting fixtures in the apartment also expresses the uncharacteristic combination of softness and roughness, with the motif being the complementary contrast between the vintage lighting fixtures and the industrial-modern lighting fixtures.

For example in the kitchen, above the table hangs a gray marble-like light fixture bought at the flea market, which complements the rest of the new light fixtures.

This motif is repeated in the other parts of the apartment.

The view of the adjoining buildings from the kitchen windows provided one of the design challenges and from it also grew one of the most interesting and unique features in the apartment - stained glass windows composed of clear glass in different textures between which are placed a little stained glass at random.

The stained glass windows were made according to a model by Frank Lloyd Wright by the stained glass artist Tzila Barkat, and they bring European chic into the apartment together with the rays of light and become a significant design element in the space.

In the living room, the bright sofa divides the space in two and thus leaves space for a library and storage for games for children.

The sitting area in the living room opens and continues to the balcony.

The library and the TV bench were designed from white-painted iron and they were dressed with vintage details found on joint tours with the designer at the flea market.

The selected furniture adds subtle color dots to the bright space.

The vintage armchairs were in the couple's possession and reupholstered in yellow, green and pink.

In the rooms - bright carpentry items and textiles in warm colors soak up a relaxed atmosphere.

In the nursery, a large closet has been designed with personal carpentry, which allows clothes and games to be stored and leaves the room free.

In the master bedroom, an iron bed upholstered in velvet in shades of beige and rust, a burgundy iron cabinet, various vintage lamps by the side of the bed and wooden shelves, contribute to the unique look.
