Funke media group: publisher Julia Becker provokes a revolt

As the leading figure of the Funke media group, Julia Becker seems overwhelmed, but cheerfully interferes in everything possible. Now the chairman of the supervisory board and co-owner is even spying on her own management.

For many years the Funke and Brost publishing families in Essen were considered to be the rowdiest in their branch.

Around the "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" (WAZ) they had created a media empire from Essen and thus had considerable fortunes, both of which are among the 500 richest Germans.

But internally, they argued incessantly over money and power.

Mistrust and resentment reigned in their 50:50 operation.

Since 2012 the Grotkamps, one of the three Funke tribes that bought shares in the Brosts, the situation was actually considered to have been resolved.

Since 2013 the company has operated as the Funke media group.

But since the founding granddaughter

Julia Becker

(47) took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board at the beginning of 2018, there was quickly new gossip.

After Julia Becker's reign for three years, insiders now describe the situation between the shareholders as "worse than ever".
