Hérault: a desecrated coffin in a chapel, grave robbers actively sought

A police investigation was opened Tuesday, November 17 in Agde (Hérault) after the desecration of a tomb this weekend, reports France Bleu Hérault.

On the night of Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 November, a burial was opened in a chapel by one or more people, obviously in search of jewelry and gold.

The coffin was that of a woman from the Travelers' community, who died in 2015. It was her husband, on Sunday, who noticed the desecration: a statuette had been moved and the silicone seals. of the coffin had disappeared.

Nothing was stolen since the deceased was not buried with belongings or ornaments.

The nonagenarian, who visits the grave of his wife who died at the age of 72 every day, is devastated.

We have the impression of burying our mother a second time

", explains André, one of the six children of the deceased, to France Bleu.

The forensic science went there to identify possible fingerprints left on the spot, and images from nearby CCTV cameras are being examined by investigators.

The perpetrators still on the run face up to seven years in prison for burial violation in the event of an aggravating circumstance (theft with damage and in a group).
