The movement was followed by 20% in the direction of cleanliness. If the agents are determined to continue their movement, the City tries

Will we see garbage cans invading the sidewalks for days to come?

Maybe not.

This first day of strike by City officials, followed at 3% overall but at 20% for the cleaning department, was not easy for elected officials and in particular Colombe Brossel, the assistant in charge of managing garbage collectors and sewer workers.

In the afternoon, avenue de France, mountains of waste were dumped on the sidewalk in front of the head office of the Parisian cleanliness and even "four gas bottles introduced into the premises" according to the elected.

The busy potty seat

“We actually came home with a gas cylinder.

But this is not to blow up the building!

It's to cook for us, ”laughs Régis Vieceli, CGT delegate.

And to continue: “We invaded the premises with the intention of staying several days in the place if our demands do not succeed.

We have to organize this occupation.

In the meantime, the strike is renewed on Wednesday.

We call on fellow garbage collectors, sewer workers, etc. to block their workplaces as soon as they take up duty and then to join us at the head office of Propreté de Paris in the 13th district.

"

“The CGT is calling for the re-municipalization of waste collection, it is a historic demand.

It must even date from Jacques Chirac and at that time I was not in business.

But it is not possible to discuss if the security conditions are not assured, ”asserts Colombe Brossel for his part.

And to specify: "A re-municipalization would have a cost of at least 70 to 80 million euros per year between the hiring and the purchase of material.

And I'm not even talking about the land to be acquired to park the trucks… ”

For the time being, municipal officials are collecting trash in half of the Parisian arrondissements, the rest being the responsibility of four private companies, Urbaser, Pizzorno, Veolia and Derichebourg.

Garbage not collected this Tuesday morning will also be this Wednesday.

Pending negotiations

According to the union representative, about sixty strikers occupy the building on Tuesday afternoon.

They are installed on the roof terrace and do not interfere with the work of the rare administrative agents present in the offices.

"On the other hand downstairs, it's a bit of a mess," admits the unionist.

“Agents who were demonstrating in front of the Town Hall have already joined us.

And they threw a lot of things in the street… ”The police forces blocked the avenue de France to traffic, but did not intervene to get the strikers out.

If Colombe Brossel is present at the Town Hall for the Council of Paris, which is held until Thursday, on the other hand the assistant to human resources Antoine Guillou and Benjamin Raigneau, the director of cleaning, are on the bridge .

While negotiations have already taken place in recent days, others should open soon.
