There's another reason for criticism.

Waakirchen -

More transparency in Waakirchen municipal politics, that is one of the core demands of the citizens' list we founded for the 2020 local elections.

She is now represented at the council table with Carolin Marquardt and Hans Heiss.

Right at the beginning of the term of office, the parliamentary group demanded that all points that the municipal council may deal with publicly should actually be discussed in public.

In doing so, she ensured that at least the agenda of the secret meeting be made known.

Nevertheless, the citizens' list complained in a press release that there were still topics and motions in the closed session that had no business there.

Citizens' list calls for more transparency

For example the subject of school equipment, which was on the non-public agenda at the most recent meeting.

“That interests the people,” says Lars Hülsmann, the new chairman of the citizens' list.

At the general meeting of the association, Hülsmann took over from Heiss.

Hülsmann complains that what transparency means has apparently not yet fully reached Mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG) and his team.

Kerkel is surprised at the accusation.

The representatives of the citizens' list had asked for a public discussion of the school equipment before the meeting, he reports.

However, this would only have been possible in part, explains the mayor.

Because actually a specific order should be awarded, which must be done in camera.

In the end, however, the item was taken off the agenda entirely.

It turned out that the planned ventilation system would not have been available until March.

“Too late,” says Kerkel.

Voting is finally done by email

A few days later there was the opportunity to order other fan models that will be available in January.

The municipal council vote took place via email.

"With a full majority," as Kerkel reports.

The fans are available after the Christmas holidays.

The community has to pay it out of its own pocket.

The Free State only subsidizes the acquisition if the classrooms do not have windows that can be opened, explains Kerkel.

"But we can expect winter here," he says.

You don't want to expose the children to ice-cold classrooms.

Citizen information about town center required

The citizens' list does not only see communication deficits on this point.

The municipality is required to inform the citizens after the first meeting about the progress of the deliberations on the town center, says Hülsmann.

Ultimately, it is important to take into account the referendum.

It is also time to discuss the bypass project with the newly formed municipal council.

The latter should have happened in the mobility committee, explains Kerkel.

Because of Corona, the meeting was canceled.

In times of the pandemic and the resulting costs, Hülsmann believes, the demand for expensive solutions to reduce traffic congestion must be viewed in a new light: "Therefore, planning a cheap bypass now would be absolutely wrong."
