The Ethiopian prime minister accuses the Tigray front, which controls the mountainous province inhabited by some five million people, of treason and terrorism.

Ethiopian federal forces claim that it was the province that revolted against them, but since then they have managed to take control of its western part.

Authorities in the province have been accusing Abbey of systematically persecuting the migrants since coming to power in April 2018, and they call the military operation an “invasion”.

Defenders played a key role in the previous coalition, but have been marginalized since the regime change.
