Moscow calls on Washington to cancel sanctions on Iran

Russia's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Mikhail Ulyanov, today called on the United States to cancel all unilateral sanctions it imposed on Iran after its withdrawal from the nuclear deal in 2018.

Sputnik quoted Ulyanov as saying during a session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency on the subject of verification and monitoring in Iran based on UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that the main reason for Iran's actions to reduce its obligations under the JCPOA is the unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal by the United States And impose illegal penalties

Transgressing territorial boundaries against Tehran and trying to force the remaining members of the JCPOA to stop fulfilling their obligations.

“The United States must ensure the full implementation of its obligations and promptly correct all violations, including canceling all unilateral sanctions against Iran that it imposed after withdrawing from the Joint Action Plan in 2018.

Ulyanov called on Washington “to immediately abandon the policy of undermining UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which is in effect despite Washington’s attempts to prevent this and failed efforts to revive previously canceled UN Security Council resolutions regarding sanctions on Iran.”

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the nuclear agreement concluded by the major powers with Iran in 2015 and the re-imposition of sanctions on Tehran.
