Ministry of Communications: We will oblige cellular companies to improve the fourth generation infrastructure in the periphery
The cellular network infrastructure was not deployed in many areas, out of economic consideration of the companies.
Therefore, the Ministry of Communications announced that within two years they will have to provide coverage in these areas, with the aim of increasing the network's deployment to 95% of the country's areas - which will allow surfing and downloading at higher speeds.

The Ministry of Communications announced this morning (Thursday) that it intends to oblige cellular companies to significantly expand the deployment of fourth-generation network infrastructure throughout the country.
So far, the companies have avoided economic considerations from installing infrastructure in a variety of peripheral areas, and following the application they will have to do so within two years.
As part of the procedure, the cellular companies will be invited to a hearing before the ministry, as part of which they will voice their position on the issue.
Companies have one month to respond to an order, after which a two-year implementation period will begin.
At the end of the period, the Ministry of Communications hopes, the deployment of the fourth generation network will be expanded from 75% to 95% absorption throughout the country.
The ministry could, for example, make the license for the cellular companies conditional on this.
Among the areas that do not currently enjoy support in the fourth generation, you can find the Hermon area, the Hula Valley, the Carmiel area, Shefar'am and more.
"Connecting Israel is not just a slogan, but a practical obligation," said Communications Minister Yoaz Handel.
"The state of the communications infrastructure in Israel in the last decade has required immediate treatment. Now is the time for repair. Residents of the Arava, the Galilee, the Negev and the Golan Heights are entitled to cellular reception, as everywhere," he added.

Today there are only three cellular companies deploying fourth-generation network infrastructure for nine million citizens, which creates loads and especially a download-upload rate significantly lower than what the network is capable of providing.
The deployment of infrastructure in the peripheral areas has not been done to date due to economic considerations of the various cellular companies.
Therefore, the Ministry of Communications is considering facilitating them, and allowing them to take care of this with the help of one operator who will retire in specific areas, voluntarily and in a limited and specific format, instead of all three.
However, this is a worrying solution: it will lead to the deployment of the fourth generation network in the periphery, but instead of improving the residents in these areas - it may lead to a situation where they all rely on one antenna, and enjoy surfing less than the fourth generation network can provide.

With high speed, in a limited deployment: the 5G network began operating in Israel

According to the Ministry of Communications, the first closure revealed the dismal state of infrastructure in Israel, which is not prepared for remote work.
To this end, many consumers use cellular infrastructure, but the condition of this infrastructure is also dismal, and in about 25% of the country it is still not possible to use fourth-generation connectivity, which is characterized by higher upload and download speeds.
"The ministry sees great importance in providing cellular coverage to every resident across the country, and believes that at this time it is right to exercise the authority given to the ministry, to oblige cellular companies to expand the fourth generation network cellular coverage," the ministry said.
