A small delegation from Ottenhofen visited a network booster in Wunsiedel.

The conclusion in the municipal council: The fears of the mega battery are unfounded.

Ottenhofen - The network booster from Tennet on Ottenhofener Flur occupies the community intensively - mainly because nobody really knows what the community is about.

Elsewhere, there are already citizens' initiatives against such mega batteries.

“Fear arises through ignorance”, is the credo of Mayor Nicole Schley, who therefore set off for Wunsiedel with her deputy Dieter Effkemann and the fire brigade commander Hermann Brandlmeier (we reported).

There is a network booster there, albeit with a significantly smaller dimension.

But the three visitors from Ottenhofen were able to study the technology and the safety requirements.

Effkemann said in the local council: "Overall, technically speaking, I have a very good feeling." And Schley said: "That is nothing to be afraid of."

Effkemann described the structure clearly: The battery cells are housed in three containers and are individually monitored.

If one gets too warm, it can be switched off immediately.

If a fire does occur, an automatic fire extinguishing system goes into action.

This work with oxygen deprivation.

The batteries would be interconnected in such a way that a considerable DC voltage would come together, which would go to an inverter on the premises.

A downstream transformer turns it into high voltage.

In Wunsiedel, for example, the electricity from the many solar systems is temporarily stored in this huge battery so that it can be dosed again when it is needed.

Schley was convinced of the need for such systems.

However, some local councils could not see the advantages for Ottenhofen and would rather see the network booster elsewhere.

"We have no influence on it, but we have to see that we inform the citizens," said Schley.

Effkemann was able to dispel one concern: the noise development could be neglected.

At best, the air conditioning for the battery containers can be heard.
