The new Infection Protection Act is intended to legally underpin the corona measures, which were previously only issued by ordinance.

This also has an impact on travelers.

On November 19, 2020, the

new Infection Protection

Act, which the Bundestag and Bundesrat agreed on November 18, will come into force.

Among other things, it is intended to

legally secure the

corona measures taken

and at the same time specifically name them, previously only "general protective measures" were stipulated.

At the same time, the new Paragraph 28a also contains some

requirements that affect the travel industry

.

We have summarized for you what you have to be prepared for now when you go on vacation in Corona times *.

The travel industry takes protective measures

According to a report by reisereporter.de, the

travel industry is

severely affected

by the

possible protective measures

stipulated in the law

.

These are almost identical to the restrictions that were or still apply during the first lockdown and the partial lockdown in autumn.

This includes first and foremost the

distance rules, as well as curfews

and

contact restrictions

.

Accommodation offers, trips and all types of events can also be restricted or completely prohibited.

Closures in retail and the requirement to wear a mask in public spaces are also possible.

No loss of earnings when traveling to risk areas

If you drive to a country that has been identified by the

RKI as a risk area

and then have to be quarantined, you will be unlucky in the future: You are

not entitled to any compensation

for your loss of earnings.

On the other hand, parents who have had to forego part of their wages due to the lack of school and daycare services can

claim

compensation

until

March 2021

.

When a country or region is considered a

risk area

is also precisely defined in the new law.

The Federal Ministry of Health, the Ministry of the Interior and the Foreign Office must all agree that there is an “increased risk of infection with a certain threatening communicable disease”, according to the RKI website.

Travelers can also be required to

fill out

a

digital entry

form if they have stayed in such a risk area.

This can be done online and via the website www.einreiseanmeldung.de.

Criticism of the Infection Protection Act

According to reisereporter.de, criticism of the new regulations also comes from the

German tourism association

.

Managing director Norbert Kunz said they had not even been heard by the Bundestag, although the travel industry was one of

the hardest hit by the corona pandemic

.

The government's promised aid has not yet arrived and each week of the restrictions is costing the industry

1.8 billion euros:

"It is now about bare survival for the company".
