The director of epidemiology, Ronald Skewes, warned of a coronavirus outbreak in five provinces of the country, including Santo Domingo.
Skewes reported that the health authorities initiated an uprising in the five most affected provinces, including the National District, Santo Domingo, Monsignor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez and Dajabón to determine the causes of the increase in coronavirus cases.
The Ministry of Public Health reported this Thursday that, for the first time in the last 11 weeks, the country reported more than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours.

(The last time that the Caribbean country registered a similar figure was on September 3 when 1,273 cases were reported and the daily positivity was around 20.55 percent.)
The daily positivity rate also rose from 11.89% to 17.46%, with the Santo Domingo province and the National District being the demarcations that accumulate more than 70% of new cases.

The Minister of Public Health, Plutarco Arias, attributed the increase to the relaxation of restrictive measures at the national level.
Coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours increased from 460 reported on Wednesday to 1,026 on Thursday, with eight new deaths.
To date, according to bulletin 245, the Dominican Republic accumulates 136,183 cases and 2,301 deaths from covid-19.
