The governor of Sao Paulo, Joao Doria, received this Thursday the first 120,000 doses of CoronaVac, the vaccine against covid-19 that is in clinical trials.

Doria participated in the reception of the vaccine from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Life Science.

Precisely, CoronaVac phase III tests are carried out in Brazil with the Butantan institute.

According to the governor, the vaccine “saves, protects and will give us the opportunity to have a new life.

A new situation with the protection of the entire population.

In order for the CoronaVac vaccine to begin to be supplied, it must have the authorization of the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (ANVISA), once the tests are completed and its effectiveness is demonstrated.

46 million doses of Coronavac expected

In the next 40 days, Brazil is expected to receive 46 million doses of the vaccine.

Of these, six million will be ready for application.

The remaining 40 will arrive in the form of raw material for formulation and packaging at the Instituto Butantan factory, which belongs to the São Paulo government.

Several regions of Brazil have participated in CoronaVac phase III tests since July.

According to the authorities of that country, more than 10,000 people have already received the dose of the vaccine or the placebo during the trials.

"It is not fair or humanitarian for political discussions to overlap with life and existence," said Joao Doria.

This, in reference –– although not named–– to the recent cancellation of the purchase of the Sinovac vaccine by the Brazilian government.

The Sao Paulo government admitted an increase in hospitalizations for covid-19.

He also announced that he would not use the Sao Paulo intensive care units intended for coronavirus patients for another purpose.

He also ordered that all hospitals, public, philanthropic and private, not schedule elective surgeries in the short term.

According to the Secretary of Health of Sao Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, the occupancy rate of intensive care units is at 43.5% in that state.

While it is at 49.7% in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo.

"This is not the time to have parties, crowds or remove the mask that protects us and protects others," said Doria.

The governor reiterated his commitment to "protecting the lives of Brazilians in Sao Paulo and obeying science and health to protect lives."
