Daniel Cordier, who fled France to England upon the announcement of Marshal Pétain's request for an armistice in 1940, enlisted in the first Free French Forces on June 28 of the same year.
He then founded and directed, two years later, the secretariat of Jean Moulin, - considered one of the main heroes of the resistance - thus becoming one of his closest collaborators.
Made a companion of the Liberation in 1944, he became, after the war, art dealer, critic, collector and organizer of exhibitions, before devoting himself to work as a historian.
He notably published a long biography on his friend of yesteryear, Jean Moulin.
