The Kochler mountain rescue service had its hands full on the beautiful late autumn days.

  • The beautiful weather has attracted numerous day-trippers to the Loisach Valley in recent days

  • The Bergwacht Kochel had to manage some operations at the same time

  • The cooperation with the helicopter teams worked perfectly

Kochel am See / Walchensee -

Last weekend in particular, things went very quickly, reports on-call manager Toni Geiger in summary.

For example, a hiker sustained an ankle injury while descending from the Jocher Alm on Sunday.

The mountain rescuers moved out in two groups - on the one hand in the emergency vehicle up to the scene of the accident and on the other hand as an escort in the rescue helicopter.

After the medical care of the patient by the helicopter crew, the injured person was lifted into the helicopter using a winch and then flown to the hospital.

Already on Saturday the helpers started to sweat when three rescue missions had to be done in parallel.

Initially, a family from the Munich area got out of hand on a hike from Walchensee to the Deiningsbach Gorge.

The parents and their two children had finally made an emergency call in a crash site next to the creek, reports on-call manager Geiger.

Here, too, the rescuers split up and came to the emergency site both on foot and by helicopter.

From there the quartet was then hoisted into the rescue helicopter with the winch and flown back to Walchensee.

At the same time, two other mountain rescuers had landed with another rescue helicopter in the area of the Herzogstand.

There a woman sustained an ankle injury on the H2 hiking trail between the Herzogstandbahn valley station and the Herzogstandhaus at the height of the waterfall.

The rescuers were roped down on site and cared for the injured, who was then taken to the hospital by helicopter.

Meanwhile, a third mission had to be dealt with.

According to Geiger, this was also an ankle injury that a 36-year-old woman sustained in front of the Herzogstandhaus.

Two mountain guards drove the emergency vehicle to the house, took care of the injured and then brought them down to the valley.

There are practiced and standardized processes for all missions, says Toni Geiger.

“That's why we get baked for all missions - even if there are more times.” The on-call manager assures that the cooperation with the helicopter crews also went smoothly.

The fact that the corona protective measures must be observed in all operations is also professionally under control.

And that is also what keeps the mountain rescue on their toes these days, according to Geiger: "Many mountain hikers are already on their way very early in the morning - and many even after sunset."

"We look at it and decide whether we have to move out," says Geiger.

A descent by hikers with headlamps can be clearly distinguished from emergency signals.
