The new passenger ship for Lake Starnberg has arrived.

On the slipway of the Bayerische Seenschifffahrt on Nepomukweg, the ship, which runs entirely on green electricity, is now being assembled and expanded.

At Easter 2021 there will be the first tour.

Starnberg - Only a few onlookers gathered at the Bayerische Seenschifffahrt shipyard on Friday morning to receive the new ship for Lake Starnberg.

From the Bucentaurpark, less than ten people watch as two huge load cranes lift the 35 meter long and 8.20 meter wide hull from a low loader onto the dry dock at the north end of the lake.

During the night, most of the individual parts of the ship were transported on special low-loaders from Passau to Starnberg, some came directly from the Lux shipyard by truck. Around 40 spectators did not miss the transport past 1 a.m. - it went smoothly .

The work, in which around 30 employees of the Kübler forwarding company, the Schmidbauer company from Graefelfingen, which was brought up with two heavy-duty cranes, and the Lux-Werft from Niederkassel, which built the ship, are involved, is relatively unspectacular.

With peace of mind, the men maneuver the 110-ton hull and later the 40-ton upper deck from the special trucks, which are up to 50 meters long, onto the slipway.

It is shortly after 11 a.m. when the upper deck lies precisely on the hull.

Now only the viewing platform and the wheelhouse are missing.

“We have to be done with it by the time it's dark,” says Elmar Miebach-Oedekoven, one of the managing directors of the Lux shipyard.

And that shouldn't be a problem, because luckily the weather plays along.

Then the individual parts are screwed together and welded in the coming days.

In a sense, a “wedding”: When components are put together, technicians often speak of a wedding.

On Friday morning, workers with large truck-mounted cranes put the upper deck on the hull.

Until the new ship, in future after the “Seeshaupt” (60 meters long), the “Starnberg” (56 meters), the “Bayern” (48 meters) and the “Bernried” (34 meters) with its 35 meters, the second smallest Lake Starnberg will have water under its keel again, but it will still take a while.

“The interior work is going on throughout the winter,” explains Michael Grießer.

Everything should be ready by Easter, the official start of the season.

"There is still a question mark behind that," says the managing director of Bayerische Seenschifffahrt.

Of course, that depends on the further course of the corona pandemic.

The Free State of Bavaria is paying around five million euros for the new ship, which will replace the “Phantasie” and the “Berg” that have already been decommissioned.

This includes all the equipment features.

“We ordered the ship to be practically turnkey,” says Grießer.

He assumes that the officially nameless ship "has a lifespan of at least 50 years".

By then, the costs should also have long been covered.

“Bayerische Seenschifffahrt is not a subsidy company.

The investments will all be recovered ”, assures Grießer.

The "MS 2020" - as the name was provisional up to the time of christening - is 100 percent electrically powered with green electricity.

The ship, which is approved for 300 people (100 indoor and 100 outdoor seats), is supplied with energy by a battery system with an output of around 1600 kWh.

“The guests on board can look forward to a state-of-the-art ship - including a charging station for electric bicycles,” announced Finance and Home Affairs Minister Albert Füracker in a press release on the ship's delivery day.

“The new ship sets a great example for environmental and climate protection: as the first ship of this size, it is powered 100 percent electrically and with green electricity.

In this way, the beauties of the world-famous lake can be experienced in an even more environmentally friendly way, ”explained Füracker.

And he also had a superlative ready, which is almost mandatory on Lake Starnberg: It is the largest electric lake ship in Germany.

Centimeter work: In some places the extra-wide transport had little space, but always enough.

That leaves the question of name.

The world will only find out what the ship will be called when it is christened shortly before the start of the season next spring.

There are several possibilities, such as Leoni;

Münsing, Possenhofen, Berg and Tutzing are also said to be interested.
