Retail has to struggle more and more. Two traditional stores are now closing in the Freising city center: Deller Schuhmoden and the shoe and sports store Gerlspeck.

Retail has to struggle more and more.

Two traditional stores are now closing in the Freising city center: Deller Schuhmoden and the shoe and sports store Gerlspeck.

  • The pressure on retail is increasing in times of online trading and the Internet.

  • Two success stories from Freising are also coming to an end: Deller Schuhmoden and Sport Gerlspeck are closing.

  • “There will be nostalgic moments,” admits senior partner Rita Gerlspeck.

Freising

-

It is becoming more and more difficult

for

retailers

- and the

corona pandemic

has made the situation even worse.

The result: It is also becoming increasingly “tight” for more and more long-established businesses.

Freising: Two traditional houses in the city center are closing - Sport Gerlspeck and Schuhmoden Deller

It was the time of the upswing:

“Schuh Gerlspeck”

was founded by Anton and Rita Gerlspeck in November

1961

.

Initially in a shop in Oberen Hauptstraße 8, later in Untere Hauptstraße 1, where the shop on Marienplatz is still an

integral part of the Freising city center

.

They

also ran their own

shoe factory in Eggenfelden

and a branch in Erlangen for many years.

In the 1980s, 38 employees found a job at Gerlspecks.

There were many employees - and yet there was a

family atmosphere.

For many years, Christmas parties were celebrated in the Gerlspeck's private house, to which the family's housekeeper cooked up.

Three of the four Gerlspeck daughters have been involved in sales and offices in the family business since 1986.

The

"Alpin Skischule Freising" was

founded

in the 1970s

.

Many Freising learned to ski there - and will still fondly remember the "good old days of skiing".

For three decades, around 100 ski instructors were out and about with the little "ski bunnies" in the Wildschönau during the Christmas holidays and on winter weekends to teach them how to ski on the slopes.

The end of an era: Sport Gerlspeck closes - "Unfortunately, the pressure on retail has increased"

Rita Gerlspeck behind the checkout counter - that too is a defining and typical image that many have fondly remembered for decades.

And of course the

Generations have slipped here - a

Freising classic

.

“In the past 20 years, however, the

pressure on retail

has

increased,

” says Rita Gerlspeck.

The Internet and online trading found

their way into the market and significantly reduced local sales.

“These are developments that will probably not offer any positive prospects for a family business in the future either,” says the senior boss.

The decision to give up the

business

was therefore made with heavy hearts

.

Senior boss Rita Gerlspeck: "There will be wistful moments"

What remains are

thousands of satisfied customers

and a proud look at

six successful decades

.

There were always ups and downs, as well as

personal

strokes of

fate

such as the early death of Anton Gerlspeck in 1998. Thanks to many loyal companions and friends, Rita Gerlspeck says that all hurdles have been overcome - also thanks to the landlords and the Sperrer bank and the Sparkasse Freising, with whom we have always worked with trust.

Rita Gerlspeck: “A big thank you also goes to our employees, many of whom have worked for us for decades.

And last but not least, the

greatest thanks to our customers

, who have remained loyal to us for almost 60 years and have given retail a chance in increasingly turbulent times.

It was also an opportunity for us as a family business that lives from the customers who shop locally.

Sport Gerlspeck in Freising: Six successful decades and thousands of satisfied customers

There will be

sad moments

when you put the key in the lock of the entrance door with the Gerlspeck inscription for the last time, when you slide down one last time, stand behind the cash desk one last time or help a customer on their knees in the shoes. " And, according to Rita Gerlspeck, “when the lights in the shop window are switched off forever.” But: “There will also be a

lot of wonderful memories

.” Nothing is known about the

future

use of the premises.

Talks are ongoing.

Freising: The era is coming to an end - for the Deller family, the shoe business is over after more than 100 years

And another era ends in Freising: the

Deller

family

no longer

runs their

shoe fashion house

-

after more than 100 years

The story goes back a long way: Matthias Deller, one of seven children of a hop farming family from Reichertshausen, inherits

a house at Untere Hauptstrasse 15 in Freising from his uncle

in

1903

- and opens a

shoe shop in it

.

Matthias Deller is actively involved in social life and joins many associations to make contacts.

In many cases, the committed businessman also acts as chairman, for example of the Heiliggeist Foundation.

His reputation grows and the shoe business is soon

well established

.

Before the start of the Second World War, his children Richard, Berta and Maria took over the business in the Freising city center.

Richard has to join the military - and so it is the two sisters who run the business during the war years.

Schuhmoden Deller gives up business in Freising: a successor has already been found

After the war, Richard Deller married his wife Anna Pirsch.

The

economic upswing

made it possible to

modernize

the shoe shop in 1954 and to

add

a leather goods department.

In 1962 the first floor of the house was added as a sales room.

Son Martin decided to become a businessman, completed a solid training and took over the house from his father in 1978.

Once again, the Deller shoe store is brought up to date, the range expanded - and becomes a

fashion meeting point in the district town.

Sales are growing steadily, and further changes will follow.

But now this

Freising success story is coming to an end

: Martin Deller will be 70 next year, and his children have changed their careers.

With a heavy heart, Deller decided to give up the business.

But he has already found a

successor

who will continue the business in a similar, tried and tested manner.

The B301 northeast bypass will open to traffic on Monday.

You can now get to the A 92 for 4.2 kilometers without having to struggle through the city.
