The CDU in Saxony-Anhalt is arguing again about the right way to deal with the AfD.
Now, together with the right-wing populists, she could tip the GEZ increase.
The
radio license is
once again causing a stir - in
Saxony-Anhalt
an increase that has actually already been decided could tip over.
The
CDU
in the state is against the
higher contribution for ARD, ZDF
, third parties and Co.
In order to push through this position, the party has to
cooperate
with the
AfD
.
It wouldn't be the first time in Saxony-Anhalt.
Magdeburg
- It wouldn't be the first time that the
CDU
and
AfD have worked together
in Saxony-Anhalt.
This time, however,
all of Germany
is
looking
: The answer to the question of whether the
broadcasting
fee - once called the "GEZ fee" - will be increased for the first time since 2009
depends on the eastern federal state
.
An
important decision
for public broadcasters, including
ARD and ZDF
.
The Christian Democrats in Magdeburg are against it.
Your coalition partner for it.
In order to get its way,
Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff's
party will
inevitably have to make common cause with the right-wing populists *.
That would not only
annoy the
Greens
and the
SPD
, but also contradict the often declared wishes of the federal party.
But the topic is popular - and there is even approval from the
Bundestag
.
Rundfunkbeitrag / GEZ: CDU in Saxony-Anhalt wants to stop the increase - but for that it needs the AfD
What will really happen in the state parliament - it still seems open.
Before the decisive vote of the
parliament in Saxony-Anhalt in
mid-December, Haseloff wants to organize several talks.
What and with what procedures the CDU politician wants to negotiate will not initially be communicated, said a government spokesman on Sunday of the
dpa
.
The prime minister's rejection of cooperation with the AfD is known.
The
Spiegel
had previously
reported on it.
Haseloff has been an
opponent of any cooperation with the AfD
for years
.
Representatives of his CDU parliamentary group, however, attracted attention several times with mental games about future cooperation.
Nationwide headlines were made some time ago when the majority of the CDU, against their coalition partners SPD and Greens,
approved
an
AfD application for a left-wing extremism study commission
.
Only a year ago, the state CDU decided at a party congress to exclude coalitions with the “AfD, which is currently radical in many parts”.
CDU and AfD together against radio license fee?
SPD general horrified, CSU man is happy
The situation is being discussed nationwide.
SPD general secretary
Lars Klingbeil
accused the CDU of allying itself with the “openly right-wing extremist state AfD” in Saxony-Anhalt.
The federal CDU initially did not want to comment.
Party friend Carsten Schneider had already warned the CDU in clear words in May against cooperation with the AfD on this issue.
He spoke of a “litmus test” for “how serious the CDU is with demarcation.” Party leader Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer herself has repeatedly called for “firewalls” to the AfD.
The parliamentary manager of the Bundestag CSU,
Stefan Müller
, celebrated this in an interview with
Die Welt
.
"I am pleased that the CDU in Saxony-Anhalt stands firm and does not want to agree to the increase in the broadcasting fee in December." There is support for
"many Union MPs"
.
However, all Prime Ministers have actually already agreed on the increase -
CSU boss Markus Söder
has consequently also given his “go”.
I support @cdulsa in their decision not to increase the # broadcasting fee.
This lack of consent must be a wake-up call for ARD and ZDF.
Serious reform efforts must now start at the # ÖRR!
https://t.co/hN1sG3S30n
- Stefan Müller (@smuellermdb) November 22, 2020
Remarkably, Müller had sharply attacked the Bundestag AfD on Friday after the incidents in parliament.
He spoke of an “official declaration of withdrawal by the AfD from parliamentary discourse” and the party as “opponents of the constitution”.
Saxony-Anhalt: Coalition problems for Jamaica - SPD and Greens want to keep CDU from AfD deal
Meanwhile, the SPD and the Greens in Saxony-Anhalt are in favor of the increase.
The CDU in the state parliament recognizes
reform efforts in the public sector
, but considers them to be insufficient and wants to vote against the state treaty including the premium.
Prime Minister Haseloff is also a member of the state parliament and part of the CDU parliamentary group.
The AfD is in principle against the contribution system and will reject it.
CDU and AfD jointly have a majority.
If there is a disagreement in the coalition, it is actually agreed that their
parliamentary groups abstain from voting
.
In this case, this is out of the question for the coalition, because the opposition alone then decides on a nationwide project: The
higher broadcasting
fee would then be stopped with the votes of the opposition because the AfD has more seats than the left, which wants to agree.
The SPD still wants to persuade the CDU to give in, the Greens also rely on joint talks.
Broadcasting fee: ARD, ZDF and Co. are to receive the first increase since 2009 - legal dispute threatens
On January 1, 2021, the license fee is to rise for the first time since 2009 - by 86 cents to 18.36 euros per month.
The contribution was determined by an independent commission, but has to be confirmed by all state parliaments.
Numerous state parliaments have already agreed.
The votes in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt are still pending for mid-December.
In
Thuringia
,
Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow
(left)
is said
to have organized a majority with the help of members of the FDP and CDU,
according to information from the magazine
Cicero
.
A single
veto
nationwide puts the
state treaty and premium increase on hold
.
It is considered likely that broadcasters will appeal to the Federal Constitutional Court in this case.
For
ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio
, the radio license fee is the most important source of income.
Again and again there has been harsh criticism of the AfD but also the Union of contributions by "public law" in recent years.
Last winter, the AfD took part in harsh scolding for a satirical song by a children's choir on WDR.
The Union recently criticized a police-critical contribution of the "Funk" offer.
