By his side, on the bench of the 32nd Paris correctional chamber: Thierry Herzog, 65, friend and lawyer of the former President of the Republic;
Gilbert Azibert, 73, former senior magistrate.
Prosecuted for corruption and influence peddling, the three men face ten years in prison and a fine of 1 million euros.
The progress of the trial is, however, suspended with the state of health of Gilbert Azibert who, pleading for medical reasons, certificate in support, requests the dismissal.
In early 2014, the judges who have been investigating since 2013 a supposed Libyan financing of the 2007 presidential campaign incidentally discovered that Nicolas Sarkozy (tapped) and Me Herzog were using open telephone lines under the assumed name of Paul Bismuth, in order to converse away from prying ears.
