Covid-19: continued decline, 215 dead

The test positivity rate has decreased to 14%, according to Public Health France. In 24 hours, the daily number of contaminations fell from 17,881 to 13,157.


Signs of a decline in the epidemic are being confirmed: 215 Covid-19 patients have died in the past 24 hours, 61 less than the day before, and the test positivity rate has fallen to 14%, said Sunday evening Public Health France.

The improvement also continues in terms of the number of new cases detected.

On Sunday, that figure stood at 13,157, compared to 17,881 on Saturday and nearly 23,000 on Friday.

A figure carefully monitored by the government, which is preparing to ease the confinement in stages.

In the same vein, the positivity rate of the tests (proportion of the number of positive people compared to the total number of people tested) continued to decline: 14% Sunday against 14.8 the day before.

This makes a total of 2,140,208 confirmed Covid cases in France since the start of the epidemic, according to data from the health agency.

The number of deaths linked to the coronavirus amounts to a total of 48,732, of which 33,445 are in hospitals.

New cases down 19% in one week

The noose loosens, but very slowly, on the hospital.

The intensive care units were still occupied on Sunday by 4,491 Covid patients, including 171 new admissions.

On Saturday, these services had 4,493 Covid patients.

31,522 people carrying the virus were hospitalized this Sunday (regardless of the severity of their condition), a little more than the day before: 31,365.

4,069 clusters (infectious foci) were under investigation, including 1,539 in nursing homes.

According to AFP calculations based on data from Public Health France, the new cases detected were down 19% over 7 days compared to the previous seven.

The number of hospital deaths fell by 8% over the same period.

New hospitalizations for their part fell by 22% over 7 days and new admissions to intensive care by 25%.
