A few days before Thanksgiving, the number of verified corona cases in the United States crossed the 12 million mark.

Health experts have warned that during the holiday the epidemic may spread even further, after a further worsening of the disease in recent weeks, which has already claimed the lives of about a quarter of a million people in the United States - more than any other country.

Following the current exacerbation, more than 20 countries imposed new restrictions this month in an attempt to curb the virus.

Reuters data show that the rate of new infections has increased, and that almost a million more cases have been revealed in the last six days alone.

Health experts have warned that the current wave of corona cases could flood the health care system if people do not adhere to public health guidelines, especially around the ban on celebrating along with other households the traditional Thanksgiving this coming Thursday.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week issued an unequivocal recommendation that it be better to avoid large Thanksgiving celebrations.

"We are appalled by the exponential increase in morbidity, hospitalization and mortality," a senior at the Center for Journalism said.

However, many Americans seem to oppose this directive in the days leading up to the holiday.

On Friday, more than a hundred people were seen crowded at the exit gates of the airport in Phoenix, Arizona, apparently as they made their way to the holiday’s mass celebrations.

In contrast, the number of people in the United States flying to Thanksgiving is expected to drop by 47.5%, compared to 2019, while the number of passengers in a car is expected to drop by only about 4%.

Pfizer has announced that it will seek approval for emergency use of the vaccine by regulators in the United States, while the country has set a new record for corona cases - 196,815 cases.

In a press briefing, senior infectious disease expert Anthony Fuchsie compared Pfizer and other companies' vaccines to "helping the country," adding that in the meantime Americans need to continue to take social distance and mask masks.

One state that is suffering from the current rise in morbidity is California, which reported a million new corona cases last week, becoming the second state with such data after Texas.

Following the further rise in morbidity, new restrictions were decided in the country to combat the spread of the virus.

Among other things, a new night curfew was decided, from 22:00 to 5:00, which will last at least until 21 December.

The order applies to 41 of the 58 counties in California, which cover more than 94 percent of the state's population, while some counties have warned that more severe measures may follow.

These are less stringent measures than the restrictions imposed in the country between March and May, when business and non-essential travel were banned.

The night curfew has also been announced in other places, such as New York City, where bars, restaurants and gyms are only allowed to open until 10pm, and schools have also closed.

The night curfew in California was declared by Governor Gavin Newsum, who said that "the virus is spreading at a rate we have not seen since the onset of the plague, and the coming period will be critical to stop the spike in morbidity."

As part of the severe morbidity data, there has been a 61% increase in hospitalization in the past two weeks.

"The data looks really bad right now," said Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.

Newsom was criticized last week when it was revealed that it violated the rules of social distance at a gala dinner held in the presence of 12 people at a restaurant earlier this month.

California rules do not allow more than three separate households to meet outdoors.

Newsom apologized and called his conduct a "grave mistake."
