Pedestrians on Lindenplatz in Bad Wiessee should use the traffic lights provided for them to cross the street “only when needed”.

“Absurd and dangerous,” criticized one citizen.

Bad Wiessee -

If you want to cross the busy town through the Wiesseer Lindenplatz, you can press the button at the pedestrian lights.

Or leave it and scurry across the street without a red light for traffic.

The municipality of Bad Wiessee specifically points this out in a sign mounted on the traffic light masts.

For Bruno Schmitz from Wiesse, the request to only use the light signal on Lindenplatz, which was redesigned a few years ago, is "still politely circumscribed with the term Schildbürgerstreich".

It is a “very strange idea” to set up a traffic light for expensive money and then ask not to use it.

That is absurd and dangerous, says Schmitz, who moved from the Rhineland to the Tegernsee around ten years ago.

Schmitz considers the traffic light to be urgently needed at this point.

After all, the cars there are often faster than the permitted 50 kilometers per hour, and the route is sometimes confusing.

Bus passengers also preferred to cross the street there.

According to Schmitz, older people, who are often disabled, can only cross the street very slowly.

He also criticized this in a letter to the Bad Wiessee community.

And meanwhile also received an answer.

Accordingly, the municipality had the sign installed because many pedestrians assume that a traffic light, if it is present, must also be used.

With the result that it keeps jamming at the traffic lights.

"In order not to overly obstruct the flow of traffic during rush hour, we point out that you can cross the street with the help of the crossing aid and without using the traffic light," explains Klaus Schuschke as the head of the regulatory office in his letter.

Schmitz is not convinced by this argument.

On the other hand, manager Hilmar Danzinger refers to the length of the red phase, which cannot be influenced by the community.

It is already aimed at very slow walkers and can be triggered by them at any time.

“But if I'm good on my feet, I'll be across the street in five seconds,” says Danzinger.

And this without bringing traffic to a standstill.

To the best of his knowledge, the former Mayor of Wiesse, Peter Höß, had already had the express reference that it was purely a traffic light for pedestrians.
